Tragic Lightning Strike Claims Young Womans Life in Madhya Pradesh

Mumbai, June 28: A tragic incident occurred in the district of Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday, where a lightning strike affected a family working in their fields. Seven members of the same family were caught in the storm while engaged in agricultural activities in the village of Jilehari, located in the Amarwara assembly constituency.

During the afternoon, the weather suddenly turned severe, with strong winds and dark clouds leading to rainfall. As the family sought shelter, a powerful bolt of lightning struck them.

The scene turned chaotic as nearby villagers, hearing the commotion, rushed to assist. They quickly transported the injured to a local hospital.

Despite medical efforts, one young woman succumbed to her injuries, leading to a wave of grief in her family and the entire village. The other six injured members are currently receiving treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition. Local police and administrative officials have visited the site, promising all possible support to the affected family.

This monsoon season has seen 18 fatalities due to lightning strikes in Madhya Pradesh thus far.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for several districts in the state, predicting thunderstorms and the possibility of lightning strikes. Districts under alert include Rajgarh, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dhar, Jhabua, Vidisha, Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Dindori, Anuppur, Shahdol, Sidhi, Singrauli, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Balaghat, and Mandla.

In the last 24 hours, strong winds have also swept through various parts of the state, with Shivpuri recording the highest wind speed at 61 kilometers per hour, while Gwalior and Jabalpur experienced winds at 56 kilometers per hour.

According to the weather department, from June 1 to June 28, Madhya Pradesh has seen a 38% deficit in rainfall. Eastern Madhya Pradesh has recorded a 67% shortfall, while the western part of the state has seen a 10% decrease.
