All-India Mayor Conference to be Held in Chandigarh on October 5-6

Chandigarh, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : The All-India Mayor Conference is set to take place in Chandigarh on October 5 and 6. Approximately 40 mayors from 19 states will gather to discuss various issues related to urban local bodies and the tenure of mayors.

Mayor Saurabh Joshi shared details about the conference during a media briefing, stating, “The main topics of discussion will revolve around urban local bodies. We particularly expect that provisions related to the tenure of mayors under the ideal act will be a focal point of the meeting.”

He emphasized the significance of the All-India Mayor Council, established in 1960, as the sole platform where mayors from across the country converge to address various challenges. Recent meetings were held in Rishikesh in June and in Delhi in July, and it is a matter of pride that this time the meeting will be hosted in Chandigarh.

The conference will be held at Mount View in Chandigarh, commencing at 8 AM on Monday and concluding with a closing ceremony at 2 PM the following day. Mayor Joshi noted that the discussion will primarily focus on the tenure of mayors in local urban bodies. He pointed out the differences in mayoral terms, citing that while Mohali and Panchkula have a five-year term, Chandigarh operates on a one-year term. The All-India Mayor Council is taking this matter very seriously.
