Kolkata, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari issued a stern warning to Mamata Banerjee on Monday, advising her to refrain from making exaggerated claims about the injury she sustained during the 2021 assembly election campaign in Nandigram. Adhikari cautioned that continuing to discuss the matter could lead to further embarrassment for Banerjee.
This warning came after Banerjee’s lawyer sent a legal notice to three prominent doctors affiliated with the SSKM Medical College and the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences in South Kolkata. The notice questioned the public release of a specific medical report without the former Chief Minister’s consent.
Responding to the legal notice, Adhikari stated that if Banerjee persisted in pursuing the issue, she might face even more embarrassment. He remarked to reporters, “I urge her not to dig deeper into this matter. If I start revealing the X-ray and MRI reports, she won’t be able to step outside her home.”
Adhikari referenced a radiodiagnosis report from the Bangur Institute dated March 11, 2021, which indicated there were no signs of a fracture in Banerjee’s limb at that time. He also mentioned that he would disclose the source of the radiodiagnosis report if necessary.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Banerjee had previously blamed BJP leaders for her leg injury and filed an FIR against them. He noted that she had expected to return to power for a fourth term but was unsuccessful. He added that she had left several important documents in her office drawers, failing to take them with her.
Earlier, Adhikari announced that a separate investigation would be launched following the results of the by-elections for the Nandigram and Rejendran assembly seats, scheduled for October 9. In the 2021 elections, Banerjee, contesting as the TMC candidate from Nandigram, lost to Adhikari by a narrow margin of fewer than 2,000 votes. She later won a by-election from the Bhawanipur assembly seat, securing her position as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.
Reports indicate that Banerjee sustained injuries while campaigning for the 2021 assembly elections, even managing to campaign while in a wheelchair and with her leg in a cast.
