Akshay Kumar Returns to Comedy with Bhoot Bangla After a Long Hiatus

Mumbai, April 16: Akshay Kumar is making a comeback to the comedy genre with his upcoming film ‘Bhoot Bangla,’ set to release on April 19. The actor, alongside director Priyadarshan, is ready to create a buzz at the box office. Fans and industry insiders have high expectations for this film.

This duo has a successful track record, which adds to the anticipation surrounding the release.

Kumar began his career in action films but later transitioned to comedy. Early in his career, he established himself as ‘Khiladi Kumar’ with hits like ‘Khiladi,’ ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari,’ ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi,’ and ‘Sabse Bada Khiladi.’ These films solidified his status in Hindi cinema. Notably, Kumar is a trained karate and martial arts expert, performing dangerous action scenes without assistance, leading to significant box office success. This string of hits in the 90s earned him the title of Khiladi Kumar.

While his action films continued to perform well, Kumar found himself typecast in serious roles, receiving similar offers. He expressed a desire to showcase his versatility as an actor but struggled to find roles outside of action. In 2000, he was offered the role of Shyam in Priyadarshan’s film ‘Hera Pheri,’ originally intended for the character Raju. Eager to showcase his comedic talents, he impressed audiences with his timing, body language, and dialogue delivery.

‘Hera Pheri’ was a massive hit, leading to subsequent successes in films like ‘Phir Hera Pheri,’ ‘Welcome,’ ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi,’ ‘Garam Masala,’ ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa,’ ‘Bhagam Bhag,’ ‘Singh is Kinng,’ and ‘Hey Baby.’ These films established him as the king of comedy. Now, after a long break, he is ready to test his luck in comedy once again. This film could potentially revitalize his career, especially since his recent projects post-2023, including ‘Kesari Chapter 2,’ ‘Mission Raniganj,’ ‘Selfie,’ ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,’ and ‘Sky Force,’ have either flopped or performed averagely.
