Munich, April 16: Bayern Munich clinched a spot in the semifinals of the Champions League with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarterfinal matchup. Late goals from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise sealed the win for Bayern.
In a match filled with excitement, Arda Güler scored two goals in the first half. Alexander Pavlovich and Harry Kane each added two goals, leveling the score. Just before halftime, Kylian Mbappé equalized, bringing the total score to 4-4. However, after Eduardo Camavinga’s exit, Diaz and Olise struck in the dying minutes, securing a 6-4 aggregate win for Bayern.
Bayern will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Final Four, with the first leg of the semifinals scheduled for April 28.
Having won all five of their previous Champions League home matches this season, Real Madrid faced a tough challenge. They started strong when Arda Güler scored just 34 seconds into the match, finishing a long-range effort past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
The first half was a spectacle, with Pavlovich quickly restoring Bayern’s lead with a header from a Joshua Kimmich corner. Andriy Lunin made a crucial save against Kimmich, but Güler equalized again with a stunning free-kick.
Kane was expected to play a pivotal role, and his brilliant touch and precise finishing helped Bayern regain their advantage.
Mbappé put the visitors ahead early, with Vinicius Junior nearly scoring off the woodwork.
With four minutes left, substitute Eduardo Camavinga’s exit allowed Diaz to curl a shot that deflected off defender Eder Militao, beating Lunin. Olise finished the match with a spectacular kick, sending the Bayern fans into a frenzy.
Bayern’s head coach Vincent Kompany remarked, “It was a very emotional match. We had the ball for a long time. It always felt like we could score, but Real Madrid is always a threat. The boys showed mental strength to overcome difficulties. The fans supported us. We remained calm and believed our time would come. The next game is the biggest. We will keep pushing forward.”
