New Delhi, April 16: As summer begins, our bodies undergo various changes. The heat can lead to excessive sweating, resulting in rashes on the skin. This discomfort is not solely due to the heat; it is also a result of an increase in Pitta dosha within the body. When Pitta rises, the body signals this change in multiple ways, which should not be ignored.

According to Ayurveda, maintaining a balance of Pitta is crucial for overall health. Initially, the body gives subtle signs when Pitta increases. Frequent acidity is a common indicator, along with symptoms such as mouth ulcers, a red tongue, burning sensations in the palms and soles, intolerance to heat, facial redness, excessive sweating, and quick temper. The heat of summer exacerbates Pitta’s effects, as the external environment is already warm, leading to an imbalance in body temperature.

So, what can be done? To balance Pitta, it is essential to stabilize body temperature. Keeping the body cool from within is vital during the summer. Consuming liquids and cool foods, along with staying hydrated, is recommended. It is beneficial to drink coconut water daily. Fennel water is also an effective remedy for balancing Pitta; soak fennel seeds in water overnight and drink it warm in the morning. This helps stabilize digestive fire and reduces acidity.

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during summer, as it raises body temperature and affects Pitta levels. Additionally, refrain from consuming cold substances immediately after being in the heat, as this can lead to severe temperature imbalances and cold-heat issues. An increase in Pitta is not a disease; it can be easily managed. However, if left unaddressed, it may lead to various health problems.
