Lucknow, April 19: In a recent statement, Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Empowerment Act). He accused the BJP of attempting to gain political advantage in the name of women’s rights while diverting attention from real issues. Yadav claimed that the BJP aims to create confusion by turning women into a mere slogan.
On Sunday, Yadav stated that the ruling party is only engaging in rhetoric about women’s issues, failing to take any concrete steps to ensure their participation at the grassroots level. Instead of empowering women, the BJP seeks to present them as a political issue.
He raised a critical question: if the government cannot even conduct a census, how can it effectively implement women’s reservation? According to him, the lack of a census raises doubts about the transparency and fairness of policy decisions. If a census were conducted, demands for caste-based enumeration would naturally arise, yet the central government seems reluctant to move in that direction.
Yadav alleged that the government is not serious about granting various sections of society their rightful entitlements. He emphasized that before discussing rights for half the population, it must be clear what the basis for representation will be and how it will be determined. He asserted that the opposition is currently emerging as the voice of the diverse sections of the country.
He accused the ruling party of dividing society into smaller groups and then creating an atmosphere of fear to gain political benefits. He labeled this as politics of fear and confusion, stating that the public has now understood this strategy. He sarcastically remarked that the BJP’s so-called ‘CMF (Create Mistrust and Fear) Formula’ has become irrelevant and is being rejected by the populace.
According to him, the BJP intended to create divisions among women through the women’s reservation bill, but the unity of the opposition thwarted this effort. He pointed out that the BJP’s politics is rooted in a patriarchal mindset, while true empowerment requires equal participation of women.
Yadav claimed that the growing public awareness and consciousness among women will alter political equations in the future. He noted that questions are being raised about the BJP’s intentions regarding women’s reservation, and women are prepared to respond democratically to this political experiment.
