New Delhi, August 3 (H.S.) – Indian fast bowler Akash Deep won hearts with his remarkable batting performance in the final Test match of the five-match series between India and England. On the third day of the match, Saturday, Akash batted for nearly two hours and scored a brilliant 66 runs, hitting 12 fours. Now, the secret behind his impressive knock has been revealed — a valuable piece of advice from India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.

The BCCI released a video on Sunday, in which Sitanshu Kotak recalled his brief interaction with Akash Deep in the hotel lift. Kotak said, “I told Akash, if you get the ball in your slot, hit it. Don’t defend, because in the last two innings you got out while trying to defend.”
In the same video, Indian captain Shubman Gill also shared his thoughts. He said, “We only told him one thing — if the ball is in your radar, try to score runs.” Gill added at the end of the video, “His 66 runs are no less than a century for us.”
Akash Deep himself reflected on his innings in the video. He said, “This half-century is definitely important for me, but more than that, batting for two hours in the morning session was crucial.” Akash added, “My mindset was that I should not get out. Even if the ball hits my body, I just wanted to stay at the crease.”
Final Test at a Thrilling Stage
The final Test match between India and England has reached a thrilling stage. India has set a massive target of 374 runs for England. At the end of Day 3, England had scored 50 runs for the loss of one wicket. They still need 324 runs to win, while India requires 9 more wickets.
Only 13.5 overs were possible in England’s second innings on Day 3. Mohammed Siraj gave India the first breakthrough by dismissing Zak Crawley for 14. Ben Duckett remained unbeaten on 34 off 48 balls. England currently leads the five-match series 2-1.
