Mumbai, June 15: Waris Pathan, the national spokesperson for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has made a significant statement regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that the primary goal is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “Anyone who wishes to join us in this fight against the BJP is welcome, and we will stand shoulder to shoulder,” he stated.
In an interview with a news agency, Pathan mentioned that AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi was recently in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, addressing a large gathering. “Our intention is to ensure that the BJP does not return to power. We are ready for an alliance with anyone willing to join us, provided we are given our share and treated with respect,” he added.
Pathan noted that Owaisi had expressed readiness for an alliance during the rally. He clarified that discussions about which parties to ally with and how many seats to contest will follow later.
He criticized the Samajwadi Party (SP), stating that if they fail to defeat the BJP, they label AIMIM as the BJP’s B-team. “The reality is that both BJP and SP are two sides of the same coin. The BJP has a Hindutva agenda, while Akhilesh Yadav also promotes soft Hindutva. Neither speaks on issues concerning Muslims. The people of Uttar Pradesh have become wise to this,” he remarked.
Pathan asserted that with a proper policy approach, the BJP can indeed be defeated.
In light of recent divisions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), rebel MPs are merging with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). Pathan reacted sharply, saying, “They accused us of being the B-team. Now, look where they have ended up. Just yesterday, they were insulting us, taking votes in the name of Muslims, and now they have abandoned them. The country is watching.”
On the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, Pathan stated that halting war is the best outcome. “War does not solve any problems; it only causes significant harm. India has also suffered losses. Three of our citizens lost their lives due to the U.S. attacks,” he noted.
He expressed disappointment that Prime Minister Modi has not condemned the deaths of Indians. “In our country, fuel prices have increased four to five times within a month. Inflation has surged, primarily due to the war,” he added.
Regarding Congress leader Ashok Gehlot’s comments on the BJP, Pathan criticized the party for not addressing development issues since coming to power. “Their only agenda is to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims, spreading venom against Muslims,” he concluded.
