AIMIMs Waris Pathan Calls for Action Against Private Development at Controversial Khilafat House in Mumbai

Mumbai, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Waris Pathan, the national spokesperson for AIMIM, has taken a firm stand against private construction at the controversial Khilafat House in Mumbai. He sent a notice to the Waqf Board, asserting that the property is Waqf land and demanding a stop to the ongoing development.

Pathan stated, “Today, we sent a notice to the Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Waqf Board. The Khilafat House has been embroiled in controversy recently. The committee claims it is the trust’s property, but we, along with others, believe it belongs to the Waqf. The Waqf Board’s chairman has confirmed this, and it is registered in the Maharashtra Gazette.”

He highlighted that the Supreme Court has also recognized it as Waqf property. Despite this, those associated with Khilafat House have commenced construction with private builders without obtaining the necessary permissions or a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Waqf Board. Following discussions, the AIMIM team locked the premises, insisting that work should cease until the court reaches a decision.

On the political front, Pathan addressed the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, stating that while AIMIM is prepared for a coalition, they are ready to contest independently if necessary. “Our goal is to defeat the BJP. We do not want a government that promotes Hindutva to secure a third term. We are discussing alliances, but they are not forthcoming. We will fight the elections ourselves,” he said.

He expressed frustration over being labeled the ‘B-team’ in political discourse, asserting, “We will fight, and you will call us the B-team. This will not happen. We are committed to our cause, and we are confident of victory.”

Pathan emphasized the need for better representation and political empowerment for Muslims, stating, “We talk about rights, and we demand participation. They like Muslim votes but not Muslims themselves.”

Furthermore, he addressed the dire situation of farmers amid drought conditions, urging for debt relief. “Farmers are burdened with loans, and many have committed suicide. The government has strayed from its priorities. It has funds but is focused on ‘Operation Lotus,’ trying to buy off MPs and MLAs instead of helping farmers,” he concluded.
