Kabul, February 22: The Afghan National Security Ministry has accused the Pakistani government of conducting airstrikes on residential areas in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. These attacks have reportedly resulted in the deaths of numerous Afghan civilians.
According to the ministry, the strikes targeted a madrasa and several homes, leading to casualties among “a large number of ordinary people,” including women and children.
Kabul has been accusing Pakistan of aggressive attacks in recent days, and the violation of Afghan airspace supports these claims.
In a strong condemnation of the attacks, the ministry described them as a blatant violation of Afghanistan‘s sovereignty and a clear breach of “international law, good neighborly principles, and Islamic values.”
The National Defense Ministry stated that safeguarding Afghanistan‘s sovereignty and the safety of its people is both a “religious responsibility and a national duty,” warning that “a timely and considered response will be given.”
The ministry added, “Attacks on civilians and religious institutions are clear evidence of the Pakistani military’s intelligence and security failures, and such recurring incidents will never conceal their internal shortcomings.” The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) has expressed concern over a dangerous airstrike reported in the Behsood district of Nangarhar.
Citing local sources, the human rights body reported that a Pakistani military strike targeted a civilian home, resulting in the deaths of 16 family members, including men, women, and children. Victims ranged from a one-year-old infant to an 80-year-old elder.
The IHRF stated, “Two children miraculously survived the attack, and one individual was injured. This is not just a loss of life; it is an act that completely obliterates a family.”
The human rights organization has called for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the airstrike by international agencies.
Additionally, it has demanded accountability for those who ordered and executed the attack. The organization also urged for humanitarian assistance to be provided without delay to the affected families in Behsood.
In solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, the IHRF appealed for respect for the rights and lives of ordinary Afghans.
