New Delhi, August 29: The Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium hosted the celebration of National Sports Day, marking the 121st birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The event was graced by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, and Union Minister of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal.
This year, the celebration revolved around the initiative ‘One Hour in the Playground,’ encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to dedicate at least one hour to sports and physical activities.
The program commenced with the ministers paying tribute to Major Dhyan Chand by laying garlands at his statue. Hundreds of participants joined the festivities starting at 8:00 AM, engaging in various sports and fitness activities.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized that the ‘One Hour in the Playground’ initiative aims to strengthen the Fit India Movement and promote the integration of sports into daily life.
He stated, “On the 121st birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, celebrated as National Sports Day, programs across the country have been organized to promote the Fit India Movement.”
Mandaviya added, “Millions of youth across the nation are actively participating in one hour of play in every street and field. I am pleased to say that under PM Modi’s leadership, the country is transforming and progressing towards a new India. To fulfill the vision of a new India, we must ensure that everyone is fit and society is healthy. This will help us become a prosperous nation. We should all spend one hour every week in the playground and focus on fitness.”
Arjun Ram Meghwal extended his wishes to citizens on National Sports Day and urged everyone to engage in regular sports and physical activities for maintaining physical and mental health.
He remarked, “Sports have always been a part of my life, from Kabaddi and football to playing badminton almost every day. My personal goal is ‘morning music and evening sports.’ Regular participation in sports keeps us physically fit, healthy, and free from mental stress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to dedicate one hour to sports on National Sports Day is crucial for India. It supports the ‘We Fit, India Fit’ initiative and plays a vital role in building a developed nation.”
Cricket, football, and tug-of-war were among the sports organized to promote participation, teamwork, and an active lifestyle.
