Advanced Security Measures for Amarnath Yatra: Anantnag Police Launches Project Hawk Eye

Srinagar, June 25: The Anantnag police in Jammu and Kashmir announced on Thursday the implementation of a significant technology-driven security initiative named ‘Project Hawk Eye’ for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2026.

Police officials stated that this project is a comprehensive surveillance effort that includes aerial monitoring, advanced facial recognition systems, sniper deployment, and hundreds of CCTV cameras.

The aim is to ensure round-the-clock security and monitoring along the entire pilgrimage route, from the sky to the ground. Under this initiative, the Anantnag police have established a multi-layered security and surveillance grid by combining advanced technology with strategically deployed personnel.

For aerial surveillance, five drones will be deployed at key locations, providing real-time monitoring and better situational awareness. This aerial network will assist in quickly assessing any emerging situations and enable immediate action by ground units.

On the ground, to enhance surveillance capabilities and gain better control over the area, 28 strategically placed ‘watch towers’ have been established at sensitive locations.

To further strengthen security and ensure effective response readiness, 22 specially trained sniper teams have been stationed at designated sites. Officials reported that 416 high-resolution CCTV cameras and facial recognition system (FRS) infrastructure have been installed at critical points along the pilgrimage route to enhance the monitoring framework.

These systems continuously conduct real-time monitoring, aiding in the timely identification of suspicious activities or movements, thereby reinforcing security measures.

Officials stated, “Through Project Hawk Eye, the Anantnag police have effectively focused their surveillance efforts from the sky and the ground, creating a seamless monitoring network that ensures comprehensive oversight of the pilgrimage route. This initiative reflects the commitment of Anantnag police to utilize modern technology and professional policing methods to provide a safe environment for all pilgrims.”

Authorities urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for immediate action.
