Mumbai, August 6: Aditya Thackeray, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis opposing the proposal to allocate approximately 16 acres of public open land in Mumbai to an organization.
In his letter, Thackeray alleged that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) are transferring public lands and urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter.
Thackeray took to the social media platform ‘X’ to express his concerns, stating, “I have written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding a halt to the land acquisition being carried out by his party through BMC and MHADA. The 16 acres of open space in Mumbai are being allocated to a BJP MLC. Two of these plots are being given for free, and one at a very low price. This must stop. Citizens of Mumbai will protest against this shameful land grab.”
He specifically requested the Chief Minister to revoke the No Objection Certificate (NOC) and allocation for three public open plots located in Andheri (West) and Juhu, which are to be issued to the Shree Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM).
Thackeray highlighted that the proposed allocation involves land currently utilized by the public for gardens, playgrounds, recreational sites, and environmental assets.
According to the letter, the proposed allocation includes three plots: the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sports Complex in Andheri West, the former MHADA cement warehouse premises in DN Nagar, and the Lokmanya Tilak Garden in Juhu.
He stated that the Gulmohar Area Societies Welfare Group, local citizens, and social activists have demanded that these plots be preserved as public open spaces to ensure access for the general public.
Thackeray urged the Chief Minister to immediately cancel the NOC and allocations related to these three plots. He also requested that relevant agencies, including BMC and MHADA, be directed to protect these lands in the public interest and ensure uninterrupted access for citizens.
