Adani Groups Significant Role in Maharashtras Economic Development, Say Industry Experts

Mumbai, May 22: The Adani Group is making substantial investments in Maharashtra’s overall economic development, from the Navi Mumbai International Airport to the redevelopment of Dharavi. This was highlighted by industry leaders and experts during the ‘Hindu Maharashtra Infrastructure Conclave 2026’ held here on Friday.

Jamshed, a distinguished fellow at the Chintan Research Foundation (CRF), noted that the Adani Group is also active in various sectors, including power and renewable energy, contributing to the state’s growth. He emphasized that other states can learn how to successfully implement mega projects through public-private partnerships.

Dr. Mahendra P. Kalyankar, CEO of the Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), mentioned that the Dharavi project will focus on skill development for residents.

He stated, “The Dharavi Experience Center will be established before August 15. The master plan is ready, and we are definitely moving forward towards a developed Maharashtra and a developed India by 2047.”

Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the need for comprehensive development not just in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) but extending from Mumbai to Surajgarh and Gadchiroli.

He remarked, “We had the opportunity to showcase the work we have done in infrastructure, roads, flyovers, metro, affordable housing, health, education, and the environment at this conclave.”

Shinde also highlighted the vision for the Dharavi redevelopment project, stressing the importance of housing rights, dignity, and the goal of making Mumbai slum-free. He shed light on plans to provide homes to all residents under a comprehensive housing scheme.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) presents a unique opportunity to transform the lives and living conditions of Dharavi residents, aiming to provide a high quality of life with improved infrastructure and public amenities. Asia’s largest slum is being reimagined as India’s most ambitious urban rehabilitation project.

The Dharavi master plan is based on three key principles: promoting economic change through redevelopment, building robust ecology and infrastructure, and developing Dharavi based on equality.

Dharavi will be transformed into a highly transit-oriented development area with seamless multi-modal connectivity, including a new metro corridor running through its center. A bus feeder system, dedicated infrastructure for non-motorized transport, and an improved road network will enhance connectivity to the last mile and promote pedestrian movement throughout the area.
