Mumbai: Celebrated actress Shriya Saran, known for her work in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema, has completed 25 years in the entertainment industry. Over this extensive career, she has witnessed the evolution of cinema across different languages and eras.
In an exclusive conversation with Daily Kiran, Shriya shared insights about her journey, the transformations within the film industry, and the challenges faced today. She highlighted how the industry has dramatically changed from the pre-social media era to the current digital age.
Technological Advances on Film Sets
Shriya began by describing the technical environment on film sets when she started. “During the early days of my career, the shooting atmosphere was very different. The lights were extremely bright and often uncomfortable for the eyes. Cameras were heavy and used outdated technology. Actors had to wait on set and could only know when shooting started by hearing the camera’s sound. It required a lot of patience and hard work,” she said.
She added, “Today, things have changed significantly. Technology has made film production more comfortable. Soft lighting is used now, which does not strain the eyes. Cameras are more advanced and lightweight, making shooting faster and easier. These improvements allow actors to focus more on their performance, and the overall work environment has become much better.”
Changing Dynamics in Artist Management
Shriya also spoke about the shift in how actors manage their professional engagements. “Earlier, artists dealt with only one manager. Now, the system has evolved with agencies playing a major role. Actors interact with multiple people, and the new generation brings fresh knowledge and perspectives, often unfamiliar to the older generation. Adapting to these changes is essential,” she explained.
Emotional Journey and Support System
Reflecting on the emotional highs and lows of her 25-year career, Shriya said, “Over such a long journey, one experiences many emotional phases. Sometimes everything seems to be going well, and at other times, one may feel lonely or vulnerable. It is crucial to have the right people around who support and uplift you. A positive environment and true companions provide the strength to move forward.”
She credited her team and colleagues for her sustained success, stating, “I owe my journey to the directors and co-actors I have worked with. Every film and experience has taught me something valuable. Without the support of a right team and collaborators, this journey would not have been as smooth or successful.”
