Bhopal, June 12: The investigation into the high-profile case of Twisha Sharma’s death continues as her father has filed a complaint with the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He is seeking an inquiry into the role of certain lawyers connected to the ‘Legal Aid Defense Council Scheme.’
Navanidhi Sharma, Twisha’s father, submitted the complaint to the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority and Chief Justice Vivek Rusia of the High Court. He has raised concerns about the involvement of some lawyers and an official associated with the legal aid system.
The complaint alleges that certain appointed lawyers, meant to provide legal assistance to economically weaker individuals, appeared to support the accused party. According to the complaint, these lawyers were appointed during the tenure of Giribala Singh as the District and Sessions Judge in Bhopal.
Sharma has also submitted a photograph showing Shreyas Saxena, an assistant advocate under the ‘Legal Aid Defense Council,’ dancing at the wedding of Samarth Singh, the accused.
Additionally, the complaint claims that during a hearing on a bail petition on May 15, Saxena was present in court alongside the accused’s private lawyer. Twisha’s father has included the name of Chief Legal Aid Defense Council Reena Verma in his complaint.
Sharma questions why legal aid lawyers took an active role when the accused already had a private lawyer. Furthermore, he has raised concerns about the involvement of an unidentified individual seen at a beauty parlor and later at the wedding ceremony.
The complaint seeks clarification regarding the identity of this individual and their role in the events.
Ankur Pandey, the lawyer representing Twisha Sharma’s family, stated that the matter has been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities. On Friday, he said, “We have sent the complaint to the concerned officials and are now waiting for action on this matter.”
The complaint demands a fair investigation into the role of the legal aid lawyers and their alleged connections with the accused. It also calls for a review of the legal representation during the bail petition hearing.
Meanwhile, the CBI’s investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death is ongoing. The judicial custody of former District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh and his son Samarth Singh will end on June 16. The agency will present both in court that day, where it will be decided whether to extend their judicial custody or grant police remand for further questioning.
The CBI had previously informed the court that it would seek remand if necessary. However, no remand has been requested since they were sent to Bhopal Central Jail on June 2.
