New Delhi, April 3: The recent dismissal of Raghav Chadha from the position of Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has sparked significant debate. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva commented that this decision is not surprising. BJP leader Shazia Ilmi also criticized AAP’s actions.
In an interview, Sachdeva stated that the removal of Chadha is a decision made by the party, and any political party has the right to make such choices. However, he condemned AAP’s request to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to deny Chadha the right to speak, labeling it undemocratic.
He emphasized that regardless of party affiliation, it is a moral duty for MPs to voice societal, national, and regional issues in the house. He accused Arvind Kejriwal of being dictatorial, suggesting that he fears individuals who dare to speak out, as seen in Chadha’s case.
Sachdeva further claimed that Kejriwal prefers associates with questionable reputations. He advised Chadha to be cautious, expressing sympathy for him and reflecting on the complexities of relationships with weaker individuals.
Shazia Ilmi launched a sharp attack on AAP, asserting that the party’s politics revolve around silencing dissent. She noted that those who do not engage in sycophancy are shown the door. Ilmi suggested that Kejriwal feels threatened by Chadha’s rising popularity and is concerned about his own position.
She questioned why Sanjay Singh was not given the responsibility in the Rajya Sabha and why Ashok Mittal was appointed instead, implying that Kejriwal avoids promoting those he feels insecure about.
Ilmi shared her own experience of leaving the party, recounting how Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav attempted to dissuade her, but were ultimately expelled themselves. She mentioned a promise made to Kumar Vishwas regarding a Rajya Sabha nomination that was never fulfilled, indicating ongoing internal conflicts within AAP.
She concluded by stating that Kejriwal’s strategy involves using individuals for his benefit and discarding them once they are no longer useful, leaving those around him without recognition.
