New Delhi, May 18: The political atmosphere has intensified in Delhi and Goa following actions by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party has accused the central government and the BJP of misusing central agencies.
Party leaders claim that the ED, CBI, and other agencies are being used to intimidate opposition parties and hinder their political activities. AAP leader Atishi alleged that just as the central government weaponized the ED and CBI in West Bengal, similar political pressure is now being exerted in Punjab and Goa through these agencies.
Atishi stated that the popularity of AAP in Goa is on the rise, prompting the BJP to send its “loyal agents” from the ED to the state. She noted that raids are currently being conducted at the residences of several party volunteers in Goa, including that of AAP’s Goa co-in-charge, Deepak Singla. Atishi claimed that these actions are not only aimed at intimidating workers but also at obtaining the party’s organizational data and strategies.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also launched a strong attack on the central government. He asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using institutions like the ED, CBI, and the Election Commission as his “personal goons” to prevent opposition leaders from winning elections. However, he acknowledged that while these agencies may harass political opponents, they cannot manage the country’s declining economy and the weakening rupee.
Additionally, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj raised questions about the ED’s actions via social media. He mentioned that the ED has conducted raids at several locations associated with Goa co-in-charge Deepak Singla in both Delhi and Goa. Bhardwaj accused the AAP leaders of being continuously targeted by agencies like the ED, CBI, and ACB. Opposition parties have consistently alleged that these investigative agencies are being used to exert political pressure.
