New Delhi, April 24: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is adopting a tough stance against its rebel MPs, preparing to take action under the Anti-Defection Law. The party asserts that the membership of these MPs could be revoked under this law.
According to reports, the party believes that despite claims from the rebel MPs that two-thirds of the members support them, only three MPs have actually joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This situation falls directly under the purview of the Anti-Defection Law.
The party is consulting legal experts regarding this matter and formal action is expected soon. AAP has made it clear that strict measures will be taken against MPs involved in anti-party activities.
On Saturday morning, AAP’s Chief Whip N.D. Gupta will write a letter to the Chairman. This letter will demand action against the three rebel MPs—Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and Ashok Mittal—under the Anti-Defection Law and for their activities against the party.
Following their resignations from AAP and announcements of joining the BJP, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha visited the BJP’s national office on Friday. He met with BJP National President Nitin Nabin, accompanied by Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak. During this meeting, Nitin Nabin welcomed them with sweets.
Previously, Raghav Chadha stated that there are ten AAP MPs in the Rajya Sabha, and more than two-thirds of them are with this initiative. He mentioned that they have already signed the necessary documents, which were submitted to the Rajya Sabha Chairman this morning.
AAP has labeled this as BJP’s “Operation Lotus.” The party alleges that central agencies like the ED and CBI are being used to intimidate AAP leaders into defecting. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that through “Operation Lotus,” the BJP aims to destabilize the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann. He emphasized that this is a betrayal of the people of Punjab, which they will never forget.
