Wardha, August 22: A serious accident occurred on Saturday in Wardha district, Maharashtra, when a tempo traveler collided with a tipper truck on the Selu-Wardha road near Ramna Fata. Seventeen passengers were injured in the incident, with several reported to be in critical condition.
The collision took place around 2 PM as the tempo traveler was transporting passengers from Nagpur to Nashik for a pilgrimage.
Initial reports indicate that the tipper was turning towards Wardha when the speeding tempo traveler struck it from behind. Notably, the tipper was lacking a number plate.
The impact was so severe that the front of the tempo traveler was extensively damaged, with the driver’s side crumpled, leaving the driver trapped inside the cabin.
Local residents quickly arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations. It took nearly an hour to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
All 17 passengers aboard the tempo traveler sustained injuries, including women and young children. Many of the injured are reported to be in serious condition and were transported to a hospital in Sevagram for treatment.
Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of the injured.
This incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety at Ramna Fata on the Wardha-Nagpur highway. Local residents have expressed that this junction has been the site of frequent accidents, labeling it a dangerous ‘black spot.’
According to residents, vehicles often cannot see oncoming traffic clearly when crossing the highway due to high-speed vehicles approaching at the last moment.
They have also voiced concerns over the lack of clear warning signs, speed control measures, and instructions for vehicles crossing the highway.
Residents are urging officials to install adequate warning boards, implement effective speed control measures, and improve the crossing arrangements to prevent future accidents at this location.
