Amaravati, April 9: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has lodged a formal complaint with the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) against the Telugu media house Jyoti for broadcasting offensive and defamatory content.
In a letter to the NBDA, party MLC and state general secretary Leela Appi Reddy accused the channel of airing malicious and unverified material targeting former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the party. He stated that this was not fair journalism but an attempt to spread hatred and mislead the public.
In a separate complaint to the NCW, YSRCP Women’s Wing President Varudu Kalyani expressed serious concerns over derogatory remarks made against women.
Both leaders highlighted that during a specific program, the anchor used extremely disrespectful language, referring to YSRCP supporters as “spineless” and making comments that undermined women’s dignity.
The party alleges that the channel failed to verify facts, did not present a balanced viewpoint, and did not provide an opportunity for response, which constitutes a serious violation of journalistic standards and the program code of the Cable Television Networks Act.
YSRCP also raised concerns that the offensive content remains available online, exacerbating its negative impact and spreading misinformation.
The party has demanded strict action against the channel, its anchor, editor, and management, as well as the removal of the content and a public apology. They have urged both the NBDA and NCW to intervene to ensure accountability and uphold media responsibility and ethical standards.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, Varudu Kalyani called for the immediate arrest of Managing Director Radhakrishna and an unconditional apology to the women of Andhra Pradesh.
