Kolkata, August 5: A young man was shot during a dispute at an alcohol party in the Liluah area of Howrah district, West Bengal. The injured individual has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night, leading to heightened tension in the area. In response, police forces have been deployed to maintain peace.
According to reports, a sudden altercation erupted between two groups during the alcohol party in the Verma Colony area of Liluah. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in gunfire.
The victim, identified as Malinga, sustained a shoulder injury from the gunshot. He is currently receiving treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the dispute and the identity of the shooter. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
A senior officer from the Howrah police stated, “A quarrel broke out between two friends during the alcohol party on Tuesday night. During this altercation, one individual aimed a gun at Malinga and fired. The shooter fled the scene after the incident.”
Upon receiving the report, a significant number of police personnel arrived at the location. A large quantity of alcohol was also confiscated from the site.
The police have initiated a search for the suspect and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace his movements.
Earlier, on August 2, a shooting incident in the Nalhati area of Birbhum district left three individuals injured. The incident occurred near Haridaspur village, where Vicky Sheikh, Habibul Sheikh, and Johnny Sheikh were shot. All three were admitted to the Rampurhat Government Medical College in Birbhum. Due to their serious conditions, Vicky and Johnny were later referred to a hospital in Durgapur, located in the Paschim Bardhaman district.
Nalhati police recovered ten empty cartridges and one live round from the scene of that incident.
