New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Youri Tielemans, the new midfielder for Manchester United, expressed that playing at Old Trafford is one of the most special experiences in football. He recalled his first visit to the iconic stadium while playing for Aston Villa, where he was deeply impressed by the atmosphere.
In July, Tielemans signed a contract with Manchester United that runs until June 2031. Last season, he contributed significantly to Aston Villa, recording seven assists and scoring the opening goal in the UEFA Europa League final against SC Freiburg.
Speaking to JioHotstar, Tielemans remarked, “Manchester United is a massive club. Playing at Old Trafford for the first time as an opponent was a big moment for me. I have never seen such a large stadium in my life. The atmosphere, the crowd—everything was incredible. It’s a place where every footballer dreams of playing.”
As he dons the Manchester United jersey, Tielemans is eager to experience the unique environment at Old Trafford. The team is currently working to find its rhythm after a mixed start to the 2026-27 Premier League season, having accumulated four points from their first four matches. They faced a defeat against Hull City, followed by a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town. Their match against Everton ended in a draw, while they suffered a narrow 0-1 loss to Manchester City in the Manchester derby.
Tielemans believes Manchester United possesses the quality and potential to challenge for major titles. He views this transfer as a significant step in his career and hopes to reach new heights with the club. “There is a lot of desire and quality within this club. This is a good step for me to progress, and I hope to win many titles here,” he stated.
He is also looking forward to working with Michael Carrick, a former midfielder for England and Manchester United, who is now in charge at the club. “Carrick was a midfielder, and that’s a huge advantage for me because he can give me a lot of tips. I’m eager to learn from him and connect with my teammates,” Tielemans added.
Moreover, he believes his experience can aid in the development of United’s younger players. “As a young kid, you look up to senior players. You try to emulate what they do in the changing room and the gym, and how they prepare to be the best. That example stays with you. I hope to be that example for the young players coming through here. I want to show them the right way to train, take care of themselves, and handle pressure,” he concluded.
