Dubai, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Abhishek Sharma has made significant strides in the latest ICC T20 International rankings, following impressive performances in the first two matches against Afghanistan. He now ranks second among T20 batsmen.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan continues to hold the top position as the world’s number one T20 batsman. India has secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. Abhishek’s scores of 82 and 39 in the first two matches helped him leapfrog Sahibzada Farhan in the rankings. Currently, he trails Kishan by 51 rating points.
Sanju Samson also benefited from his explosive half-century in the second T20, rising four places to rank 30th.
On the bowling front, Indian bowlers have also seen improvements in the ICC T20 rankings. Varun Chakravarthy climbed two spots to reach fifth, while Jasprit Bumrah surged seven places to rank tenth. Arshdeep Singh made an impressive jump of 11 positions to 14th, and Axar Patel moved up six spots to 27th following solid performances against the host team.
Afghanistan’s all-rounder, Azmatullah Omarzai, also ascended in the T20 International all-rounder rankings after scoring an unbeaten half-century in the series opener.
In other news, following a 59-run victory over Zimbabwe in the first match of their series, three Australian players improved their positions in the ODI rankings. Nathan Ellis, after taking five wickets, climbed 20 places to rank 20th among ODI bowlers. Matthew Renshaw, who scored 109 runs and was named ‘Player of the Match’, moved up to 68th among ODI batsmen. Cooper Connolly also rose nine places to 77th after scoring 51 runs against Zimbabwe.
In the Test rankings, England’s fast bowler Ollie Robinson achieved a career-best rating after taking 21 wickets in the recent three-match Test series against Pakistan, moving up two spots to third. His teammate Josh Tongue also improved his ranking, climbing two places to 11th after taking 19 wickets in the series, marking his best career ranking.
Robinson’s half-century in the third Test played in Birmingham helped him ascend seven spots to 13th in the Test all-rounder rankings. Despite Pakistan’s 0-3 series defeat, captain Babar Azam climbed two places to rank 13th among Test batsmen, while Shan Masood improved four positions to 37th thanks to his outstanding performance in the final match of the series.
