Gurugram, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : A 31-year-old man from Delhi was tragically murdered in Gurugram, sparking grief among family and neighbors. The victim, identified as Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, had traveled to Gurugram to meet a former colleague after shopping for his upcoming wedding.
Neighbors expressed their sorrow, with one stating, “I can’t say much as I don’t have all the details, but what happened is very sad. We’ve lived here for 30 years and knew the family well. He was a very good boy, and we’re all heartbroken over this.”
A family friend of Yuvraj’s father lamented, “It’s tragic to see young people involved in such acts. Yuvraj had two sisters and was a well-mannered young man. I’ve known him for 15 years, and he told me he was getting married soon.”
According to police reports, Yuvraj was killed by his former colleague and her partner over a financial dispute, after which they disposed of his body in a drain. His wedding was scheduled for October of this year.
On September 6, Yuvraj went shopping for wedding items with his sisters in Lajpat Nagar. Around 4:15 PM, the family stopped for a meal at the Golden Dragon restaurant. Shortly after, Yuvraj informed his sisters that he needed to meet his former colleague in Gurugram and left the restaurant. His sisters later returned home by cab.
Family members noted that Yuvraj had communicated with them around 7 PM, saying he would return by 10 PM. However, he never arrived home. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach him, the family reported him missing at the Lajpat Nagar police station on September 11.
On September 8, they received a final WhatsApp message from Yuvraj’s number at 4:16 PM, shortly before his phone went silent. The family alleges that Gurugram police recovered his body on September 10 but failed to inform them. They also claim that information regarding unidentified bodies was not uploaded to the official platform, ZIPNET, within the required timeframe.
According to the family, officials cremated Yuvraj’s body on September 14, two days before they were notified of his death. Under regulations, authorities can cremate unidentified bodies if identification attempts fail within a set period.
Yuvraj’s family is demanding access to the autopsy report, investigation documents, photographs, DNA samples, and his personal belongings. They highlighted that Yuvraj was the sole breadwinner, as his father is paralyzed and his mother suffers from heart disease.
During the investigation, police discovered that Yuvraj’s last phone call was with his former colleague, Vats. After this call, her phone also went silent. Investigators examined CCTV footage, technical evidence, and workplace connections related to both individuals.
Vats emerged as the main suspect. Police tracked her new mobile number and arrested her in Uttarakhand, along with her partner. During questioning, both suspects confessed to the murder and admitted to disposing of Yuvraj’s body near their home in Gurugram.
Authorities suspect that a financial dispute may have led to the murder, although Yuvraj’s family claims Vats has not disclosed the true motive. Both suspects are currently in police custody for five days as investigators seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crime.
