Yellow Alert Issued for NCR on May 11 and 12 Due to Rain and Strong Winds

New Delhi, May 11: The weather in the National Capital Region (NCR) is set for a change. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for May 11 and 12, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

According to the weather department, conditions may deteriorate suddenly in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and surrounding areas during the afternoon and evening hours on these two days. The IMD’s seven-day forecast predicts a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius on May 11, with humidity levels ranging from 65% to 40%.

The department has indicated a likelihood of rain accompanied by thunder. Light to moderate rain is expected in the afternoon, along with lightning and winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Similar weather conditions may persist into the evening.

On May 12, the weather is expected to remain largely unchanged. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be 36 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. A yellow alert has also been issued for light rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds on this day, advising residents to remain vigilant due to the adverse weather.

However, some improvement in weather conditions may be observed starting May 13. The IMD predicts a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius, with partial cloud cover and the potential for developing thunderclouds, but no warnings have been issued. On May 14, clear weather is expected, with a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius, and no alerts are anticipated.

Recent strong winds in the NCR have also positively impacted air quality. The increased wind speeds have led to a partial improvement in pollution levels, with several areas reporting better Air Quality Index (AQI) readings. Meteorologists suggest that the rain and strong winds may provide some relief from the heat, resulting in a decrease in maximum temperatures. The weather department advises people to stay away from open areas, trees, and power lines during adverse weather. Drivers are also urged to exercise caution.
