Beijing, April 20: Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation on Monday afternoon with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, emphasizing the importance of developing relations with Saudi Arabia.
Xi stated that China values its relationship with Saudi Arabia highly and has always adhered to the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. China aims to deepen strategic mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation, and expand exchanges at all levels, continuously broadening and deepening China-Saudi relations to set an ideal for the development of ties between China and Arab countries.
During the discussion on the current situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Xi emphasized China’s support for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. He advocated for all efforts conducive to restoring peace and stressed the importance of resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means.
The Chinese President asserted that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open for normal navigation, which is in the shared interest of regional countries and the international community. China also supports regional nations in building good neighborly relations, development, security, and cooperation, taking their future and destiny into their own hands, and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
In the phone call, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman remarked that the Saudi-China relationship is strategic, and developing ties with China is extremely important for Saudi Arabia. He noted that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is jeopardizing the security of Gulf countries and severely impacting global energy supply and economic activities. Saudi Arabia is committed to resolving disputes and differences through dialogue and hopes to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
