WTA Finals to be Held in Charlotte from 2027 to 2029

Charlotte, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : The WTA Finals, one of the premier events in women’s tennis, will find a new home in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 2027 to 2029. This season-ending championship will be held at the Spectrum Center, the home arena of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced this exciting development on Wednesday, aiming to establish a long-term platform for its most significant event. The Finals feature the top singles players and doubles teams competing for prestigious titles at the end of each season.

This move signifies a fresh chapter for the WTA Finals, which have been hosted in various cities worldwide over the past two decades. The WTA stated that this long-term partnership will enhance the championship’s identity and experience, strengthening relationships with fans and commercial partners alike.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation has been the WTA’s primary local partner in this initiative. It collaborated with state and local officials, as well as the local business community, to advance the partnership.

Even after the tournament concludes, this collaboration will continue, with plans for the WTA to relocate its global headquarters to Charlotte. This shift is expected to bolster ties with local business, civic, sports, and community leaders.

The WTA Finals represent the pinnacle of the WTA Tour season. Players qualify based on their performance throughout the year in the “PIF Race to the WTA Finals.” Only the top singles players and doubles teams earn a place in this prestigious event, with the singles champion receiving the WTA Finals Billie Jean King Trophy and the doubles winners taking home the WTA Finals Martina Navratilova Trophy.

After two decades of being hosted in various countries, the WTA Finals will return to the United States in 2026, with Indian Wells set to host the tournament. According to the WTA, relocating the Finals to Charlotte aims to further this global legacy and establish the Finals week as a key event on the international women’s sports calendar.
