
New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian cricket team has suffered a significant setback ahead of the 2026 Asian Games. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy will not participate in the tournament due to an injury. He will also miss the upcoming T20 International match against Japan.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Vipraj Nigam has been selected to replace Chakravarthy in the Asian Games squad. Additionally, Nitish Kumar Reddy has opted out of the Games as well.
On Wednesday, the BCCI revealed the squad for the One Day International (ODI) and T20 series against the West Indies. Reddy will only be part of the ODI series against the West Indies.
The Indian team for the ODI series against the West Indies includes newcomer Naman Dheer, while Ruturaj Gaikwad makes a return to the ODI setup. Akib Nabi has also been included in both the T20 and ODI teams, and Yashasvi Jaiswal has earned the selectors’ trust for the ODI squad.
Shubman Gill will lead the team in the 50-over format, with KL Rahul serving as the vice-captain. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah will not be part of the squad for the West Indies series.
Mohammed Siraj will spearhead the pace attack, supported by Prasidh Krishna, Akib Nabi, and Gurnoor Barar. The spin department will be handled by Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. Shreyas Iyer will captain the team for the five-match T20 series, which also features Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav alongside Arshdeep Singh. Washington Sundar has been included in the T20 lineup, with Tilak Varma appointed as the vice-captain.

The Indian team for the ODI series against the West Indies consists of Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (vice-captain), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Barar, Mohammed Siraj, Akib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Naman Dheer.
For the T20 series against the West Indies, the Indian team includes Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryaanshi, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Tilak Varma (vice-captain), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, and Mayank Yadav.
