Giridih, April 15: A young woman’s suspicious death in the Chowdharydih Shyam Nagar area of Giridih district, Jharkhand, has sparked outrage. Late Tuesday evening, the 26-year-old Bindya Devi, wife of Chandan Kumar, was found dead near a well close to her home. Following the incident, her family members attacked her in-laws’ house, setting it ablaze and causing significant unrest in the area.
In response to the escalating situation, police have deployed security forces throughout the village. Bindya’s relatives arrived in large numbers from Barhi in Hazaribagh district upon hearing the news of her death. They accused her in-laws of harassment and began vandalizing their property. The situation quickly escalated as the crowd doused the house in petrol and set it on fire, destroying all belongings inside.
Local police from the Saraiya station arrived promptly to control the angry mob. Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames. The police have since taken possession of Bindya’s body for a post-mortem examination.
Sources indicate that there had been ongoing domestic disputes between Bindya and her in-laws, which may have led her to take drastic measures. However, her family insists that it was a case of murder. According to Giridih police, the situation in the village is currently calm, but additional police forces remain on standby.
