Chennai, April 20: The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are set for April 23, featuring a total of 4,023 candidates across all 234 constituencies.
This election has evolved into a multi-cornered contest, with major parties including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) among others.
According to official figures, over 573 million voters, precisely 5,73,43,291, are eligible to exercise their voting rights. To promote voter turnout and ensure 100% participation, the Election Commission has launched extensive awareness campaigns throughout the state.
As the voting day approaches, political activities have intensified. Top leaders are touring the state to campaign for their parties and candidates.
DMK Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, NTK Coordinator Seeman, and TVK leader Vijay are among the prominent figures leading aggressive election campaigns.
The election campaign will conclude on April 21 at 5 PM, marking the end of public campaigning. Leaders have planned their final rallies in key constituencies.
Stalin is expected to wrap up his campaign in the Kolathur constituency, while Palaniswami will conclude his outreach in Edappadi, Salem district. Vijay, who has garnered significant attention, will finish his campaign in the Nandanam area of Chennai.
After the campaigning ends, the Election Commission will focus on preparations for voting. A total of 75,064 polling stations are being set up across the state to ensure smooth voting. The process of sending Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to these stations has already begun under strict security measures.
Additionally, the distribution of booth slips to voters has commenced. Designated election staff are going door-to-door to provide slips, informing voters of their respective polling stations and details.
As administrative arrangements are in full swing and election campaigning reaches its peak, Tamil Nadu is gearing up for a crucial electoral battle that will shape the state’s political landscape for the next five years.
