Women Entrepreneurs Celebrate PM Modis Birthday Through Umeed Scheme

Jammu, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Women living near the India-Pakistan international border in Jammu recently extended birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, celebrating their achievements through the ‘Umeed Scheme.’ This initiative, part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), has empowered them to create handicraft products over the past three years, leading to their recognition as “Lakhpati Didis.”

Expressing their gratitude, the women noted how such schemes have provided them with opportunities to earn a livelihood and showcase their skills. They conveyed their hopes for continued welfare programs that would particularly benefit the younger generation.

Priti Devi, a cluster coordinator associated with the Umeed Scheme, shared her enthusiasm. “This has been a remarkable opportunity for us. I feel fortunate to be part of this initiative. We joined in 2018, and before that, we had no identity. Today, we are known as Lakhpati Didis, and it brings us joy to have established our unique identity through this scheme. The Prime Minister has introduced excellent programs for us. We hope for more initiatives that encourage rural women to showcase their talents,” she said.

Member Poonam Jamwal emphasized the platform the Umeed Scheme has provided. “We can work from home and have built our identities. I consider myself lucky to have created a unique identity. When I have free time at home, I focus on making handmade products. Happy birthday to Prime Minister Modi! I urge for more initiatives to help women progress and secure income sources,” she stated.

Another member, Rinku Devi, remarked on the impact of the Umeed Scheme. “We feel educated and talented enough to showcase our skills. I wish Prime Minister Modi a happy birthday. Since he took office, there has been no more gunfire in our area, which used to be frequent. We were once too afraid to build homes, but now we live comfortably. Selling our products brings us joy. We had nothing before, but now with the income, I feel motivated to work even harder.”
