Jaunpur, August 8: As Independence Day approaches, women from rural self-help groups in Jaunpur are making significant contributions to the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Under the centrally sponsored National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), around 300 women from 62 self-help groups have taken on the task of creating national flags ahead of the government’s extensive nationwide flag hoisting initiative.
The goal is to prepare five lakh flags for the district, with these flags being crafted by the women across all blocks. Vijayalakshmi Maurya from the Bajrang self-help group informed a news agency that her group has been assigned the task of making 17,000 flags. They have already completed sewing 6,000 flags, which have been sent to the block office.
Vijayalakshmi mentioned that there are over ten women in her group working on this project. They are actively engaged in sewing the flags and expect to earn between 30,000 to 40,000 rupees from this initiative.
Jitendra Pratap Singh, the self-employment commissioner, stated that the district has been given the target of producing five lakh flags this time. The primary work is being carried out by the self-help groups at the cluster level, fulfilling the government’s objectives for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
He explained that the women earn between 1.5 to 2 rupees per flag, as their role is primarily sewing. The clusters receive 20 rupees for each flag, ensuring that the women from the self-help groups earn between 2 to 3 rupees per flag they produce.
