Lucknow, March 29: The Uttar Pradesh government is gearing up for the wheat procurement season for the Rabi marketing year 2026-27, starting on March 30 and continuing until June 15. Farmers are actively participating, with over 224,000 already registered to sell their wheat.
To facilitate this process, the state has established 3,574 procurement centers. The minimum support price (MSP) for wheat has been set at ₹2,585 per quintal, which is an increase of ₹160 compared to last year.
A total of 6,500 procurement centers will be set up by eight agencies, including the marketing branch of the food department. Under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, work has commenced swiftly. The procurement centers will operate from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Chief Minister Adityanath has issued strict instructions to ensure that farmers face no difficulties when selling their produce. Adequate arrangements for shade, water, and seating must be in place, considering the weather conditions. Farmers are expected to yield a good harvest this year, thanks to the sufficient supply of seeds provided by the agriculture department.
The government aims to purchase enough wheat to prevent any losses for farmers. Initially, the food and logistics department set a target of 3 million metric tons, but the Chief Minister has raised this goal to 5 million metric tons.
Additionally, the Chief Minister has directed that payments to farmers be made within 48 hours through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To eliminate the involvement of middlemen, the entire system has been moved online. Farmers who have not yet registered or renewed their registration for wheat sales can do so online. Registration on the portal or mobile app is mandatory for selling wheat.
If farmers encounter any issues during the sale, they can report them via the toll-free number 18001800150, ensuring that officials will address their concerns. Key details include:
