Trinidad, July 29: The West Indies showcased an impressive performance, defeating Pakistan by 90 runs in the first Test match. This victory gives the Caribbean team a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. Chasing a target of 211 runs, Pakistan’s entire team collapsed for just 120 runs in their second innings.
Pakistan’s chase got off to a poor start. Ahsan Ali was dismissed for just 3 runs, while Imam-ul-Haq also fell to Kemar Roach for a mere 3 runs. Salman Agha failed to open his account and became another victim of Jayden Seales. Mohammad Rizwan’s bat remained silent as he scored only 11 runs off 28 balls before being dismissed. Aamir Jamal returned to the pavilion without scoring after facing 12 balls.
Ali Usman was dismissed by Kemar Roach for just 2 runs, and Shan Masood managed only 3 runs. Khurram Shehzad contributed a mere 4 runs, while Mohammad Ali also went back without scoring. Captain Babar Azam stood firm at one end but lacked support from the other batsmen.
Babar faced 107 balls, scoring an unbeaten 58 runs, including 9 boundaries. In bowling, Jayden Seales delivered a stellar performance, taking 5 wickets for just 20 runs in 14.2 overs. Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves each claimed two wickets.
Earlier, Mohammad Abbas took 5 wickets for Pakistan, playing a crucial role in bundling out the West Indies for 181 runs in their second innings. Shemar Joseph was the top scorer for the Caribbean team in that innings, making 38 runs. In the first innings, West Indies scored 311 runs, thanks to strong performances from Shai Hope (92 runs) and Kevon Hodge (84 runs). Pakistan, despite Shan Masood’s century (109 runs), could only manage 282 runs in response.
