New Delhi, July 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Harjinder Kaur and Gulveer Singh on Wednesday for winning silver medals for India at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. He praised weightlifter Harjinder for achieving her personal best performance.
In a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Congratulations to Gulveer for winning the silver medal in the men’s 10,000 meters. His commitment and dedication are commendable. Best wishes for his future endeavors.”
While congratulating Harjinder for her success in the women’s 69 kg weightlifting event, the Prime Minister noted, “Congratulations to Harjinder Kaur for winning the silver medal in the women’s 69 kg category at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It is also remarkable that this was her personal best performance. It’s a joy to see our weightlifters perform so well in the games. I wish Harjinder all the best for her future efforts.”
Harjinder lifted a total of 227 kg, securing her silver medal with 101 kg in the snatch and 126 kg in the clean and jerk. This podium finish further strengthened India’s impressive weightlifting campaign in Glasgow.
The Prime Minister also praised Gulveer Singh, who made history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the men’s 10,000 meters at the Commonwealth Games.
In another post, he stated that Gulveer excelled in challenging conditions due to rain, finishing with a time of 27:49.78, placing second behind Australia’s Kai Robinson.
These two podium finishes increased India’s medal tally at the games to 12. While Harjinder continued India’s glorious tradition in Commonwealth weightlifting, Gulveer’s success in long-distance running marked a significant achievement for Indian athletics on one of the biggest sporting platforms.
