Kolkata, December 4 – A major revelation has emerged during the second phase of West Bengal’s voter list Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. During the digitisation of enumeration forms, 50 lakh people have been identified who do not reside in West Bengal.

According to digitisation data available till Tuesday evening, this figure was slightly over 46 lakh, which reached approximately 50 lakh by Wednesday night. This is being considered the highest figure recorded so far, and it may increase further in the coming days.

Notably, nearly four lakh names were added to the list of those to be removed from West Bengal’s voter roll within just 24 hours.

Sources from the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office revealed that among the 50 lakh names identified for removal by Wednesday night, over 23 lakh fall under the “deceased voter” category, followed by more than 18 lakh names in the “shifted” voter category.

Meanwhile, the number of “missing” voters has exceeded seven lakh, with the remaining being “duplicate” voters and those marked for removal due to other reasons.

The final list of names marked for removal from the voter roll will be clarified only after the draft voter list is published on December 16.

Subsequently, the notice phase will begin, which includes simultaneous notice issuance on enumeration forms by Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), hearings, verification and decision-making, and settlement of claims and objections, scheduled between December 16 and February 7, 2026.

The final publication of the electoral roll will be on February 14, which was earlier scheduled for February 7.
