Kolkata, May 1: The Election Commission has announced that re-polling will take place on May 2 at 15 voting centers across two assembly seats in the South 24 Parganas district as part of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. This decision follows the cancellation of the voting conducted on April 29 at these centers.
In a letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, the Election Commission stated that the decision was based on reports from the returning officers and observers for the 142-Magurahat West and 143-Diamond Harbour assembly constituencies. The voting held on April 29 at these centers has been declared void under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
According to the commission’s order, re-polling will occur on May 2, 2026, from 7 AM to 6 PM at all 15 voting centers.
In the 142-Magurahat West assembly constituency, re-polling will be conducted at 11 centers, including North Yerpur F.P. School (Room No. 2), Nazra F.P. School (Rooms 1 and 2), Deula F.P. School (Room No. 1), Ghola Noyapara Girls High Madarsa (Room No. 2), Ektaara Malaya F.P. School (Rooms 1 and 2), Ektaara Malaya Dhora F.P. School (Room No. 1), and Bahirpuya Kurkuria F.P. The Election Commission has instructed that information regarding the re-polling be widely disseminated in the respective areas. They have requested that the public be informed and that all candidates receive written notification about the re-polling.
It is noteworthy that voting for these seats occurred on April 29, but the decision for re-polling was made following reports of irregularities. The results for all assembly seats are expected to be announced on May 4, with extensive preparations already in place.
