West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose Resigns, Chief Minister Mamata Questions Motives

New Delhi, March 5: West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has resigned from his position on Thursday. The resignation has raised eyebrows, prompting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to voice her concerns. She expressed her shock and distress regarding the news.

In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Banerjee stated, “I am shocked and very disturbed by the sudden news of Governor C.V. Ananda Bose’s resignation. I am unaware of the reasons behind his resignation. However, given the current circumstances, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Union Home Minister exerted pressure on the governor for some political advantage just before the upcoming state assembly elections.”

She further added, “The Union Home Minister has just informed me that R.N. Ravi is being appointed as the Governor of West Bengal. He never consulted me regarding this decision, which undermines the spirit of the Constitution of India and attacks the foundation of our federal structure. The Centre should respect the principles of cooperative federalism and avoid making unilateral decisions that weaken democratic traditions and the dignity of states.”

It is noteworthy that the governor has submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu. The official reasons behind his resignation have not yet been disclosed. Ananda Bose had a year and a half remaining in his term, having taken office as the Governor of West Bengal in 2022. He has been serving in this role for over three years.
