Kolkata, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata, September 5 — West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul stated on Saturday that the government’s primary focus is on eradicating dengue and ensuring transparency in the reporting of infection cases, rather than concealing the actual numbers.
Speaking at a dengue awareness rally in the Asansol South Assembly constituency of the Paschim Bardhaman district, Paul mentioned that the Chief Minister has instructed officials to accurately report dengue cases following blood tests.
“Our goal is not to hide the number of dengue cases. We aim to eliminate dengue. If someone is infected, it should be clearly reflected in the reports,” he asserted.
The awareness rally, organized by the Asansol Municipal Corporation, commenced at Ramsay Maidan and concluded at the Battala market in Mahishila. Several officials, including Asansol Municipal Commissioner Dilip Mishra and district forest officers, participated in the event.
Paul acknowledged the rise in dengue cases but emphasized that the issue is not about hiding numbers. The Chief Minister has mandated that if dengue is detected, it must be specifically noted in the reports after blood tests.
During a media interaction, Paul revealed that dengue cases are emerging from three wards in the Asansol South Assembly area, with approximately 40 to 48 individuals currently undergoing treatment for the virus. “We are not trying to conceal the number of dengue patients. Instead, we want to ensure that they receive treatment to prevent the spread of this issue,” he stated.
To combat dengue, Paul announced that mosquito nets will be distributed to residents in the affected wards, particularly targeting low-income families. Health camps will also be set up in these areas. Maintaining cleanliness and raising public awareness are crucial, he added.
“Dengue can only be eradicated when people are aware. No water should be allowed to accumulate anywhere in homes. If anyone experiences a fever lasting more than two days, they should get tested for dengue at a government hospital. Sufficient testing kits have already been provided to all hospitals, and the tests will be free of charge,” Paul concluded.
