Noida, April 4: The weather in the National Capital Region (NCR) has taken a significant turn recently. Due to the activation of a western disturbance, the area is experiencing persistent cloud cover, strong winds, and reports of rain accompanied by hail in several locations.
According to the Meteorological Department, this unstable weather pattern may continue until April 8, raising concerns among the general public and farmers alike. The India Meteorological Department’s latest forecast indicates that on April 4, the minimum temperature in the Noida area was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius, while the maximum reached 30 degrees Celsius.
Throughout the day, overcast skies are expected, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms likely. On April 5 and 6, the weather may clear up somewhat, with temperatures potentially rising to between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius. However, on April 7 and 8, partial cloud cover and the return of rain or thunderstorms are anticipated.
In terms of air quality, the pollution levels in NCR remain moderate to poor. In Anand Vihar, Delhi, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 250, falling into the ‘poor’ category. Other areas reported AQI levels of 180 in Ashok Vihar, 143 in Bawana, 156 in Chandni Chowk, and 193 in the Cantonment area. Conversely, some regions showed relatively better air quality, such as the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, which recorded an AQI of 73, categorized as ‘satisfactory.’
Various sectors in Noida also reported moderate to poor air quality. Sector 125 had an AQI of 195, Sector 62 recorded 181, Sector 1 had 208, and Sector 116 reported 199. These figures indicate that despite the weather changes, pollution levels have not been fully controlled. The unseasonal rain and hail have severely impacted farmers, particularly affecting standing crops of wheat and mustard, leading to concerns about reduced yields.
Farmers may face substantial economic losses due to these adverse conditions. The Meteorological Department has advised the public to exercise caution during this inclement weather, avoid unnecessary outings, and seek safe shelter given the potential for strong winds and lightning.
