Waris Pathan Visits Bandra, Criticizes Demolition of Homes for 400 Families

Mumbai, May 25: AIMIM’s national spokesperson Waris Pathan visited the ongoing demolition site in the impoverished area of Bandra (East) and met with affected families. He raised concerns about the administration’s actions, stating that these individuals had lived in the area for many years before their homes were suddenly demolished by bulldozers.

Pathan reported that approximately 400 poor families have lost their homes, leaving women, the elderly, and children exposed to the elements. The affected residents are struggling with severe shortages of food, water, sanitation, and other basic necessities.

He mentioned that many families presented him with electricity bills, property documents, and other records, clearly indicating their long-term residency. Pathan urged both the central and state governments to provide alternative housing to those with valid documents, especially in light of the approaching monsoon season.

He questioned why no action has been taken against the officials who allowed these families to reside there for years. Pathan emphasized that it is not justifiable to target the homes of the poor while holding responsible officials accountable.

During his visit, Pathan also toured the Deonar Goat Market, where he met with traders, municipal officials, and police to assess the conditions. He noted that traders bringing goats from distant areas are facing shortages of water and other facilities. Although the administration has permitted the market, adequate basic arrangements have not been made.

Pathan stated that the AIMIM team and local councilors will raise these issues with the state government and submit a memorandum to the relevant authorities. He stressed that it is the administration’s responsibility to ensure proper arrangements for traders and livestock during the sacrificial season.

On the demand to declare the cow as the national animal, Pathan remarked that Muslims respect the law and the constitution, operating within its framework. He added that if the BJP wishes to declare the cow as the national animal, they face no opposition. According to him, rather than politicizing the issue, all parties should seek solutions within constitutional boundaries.
