Wang Yi Participates in High-Level Meeting Celebrating Five Years of Global Development Initiative

Beijing, July 29: Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister, attended a high-level meeting on July 28 in Beijing to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative.

In his address, Wang Yi noted that five years ago, when the world faced numerous challenges in global development, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative. This initiative has presented China’s solutions and contributions to invigorate global development.

Wang emphasized that over the past five years, the initiative’s impact has steadily increased. Cooperation mechanisms across various sectors have strengthened, and numerous practical projects have been successfully implemented. He stated that in the current complex and unstable international environment, the significance of this initiative has grown more than ever.

He urged that the Global Development Initiative should be advanced in conjunction with the United Nations’ development agenda. To achieve this, all nations must work together to create a peaceful development environment, accelerate efforts to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, promote innovation-based development, and strengthen openness and mutual learning. Additionally, he called for embracing multilateralism to reform the global governance system.

Wang Yi asserted that regardless of international circumstances, China will continue to play its role as a responsible major country. He stated that China will link its development with the shared development of all nations, remain an active partner and contributor to global development, continuously advance the Global Development Initiative, share development opportunities with all countries, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity.
