Beijing, May 1: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Antonio Rubio on April 30.
During the discussion, Wang emphasized that the diplomacy of top leaders has always served as the guiding principle for China-U.S. relations. Under the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, the relationship between the two countries has remained stable. This stability aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations’ citizens and the expectations of the international community. Both sides should work diligently to maintain this hard-earned stability and prepare the agenda for significant high-level talks.
Wang pointed out that the Taiwan issue is closely related to China’s core interests and poses the greatest risk to China-U.S. relations. The U.S. must honor its commitments and make the right choices to create opportunities for cooperation between China and the U.S., which are essential for global peace.
Rubio, on his part, stated that the U.S.-China relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world. The diplomacy of top leaders is central to U.S.-China relations. Both sides need to maintain communication and coordination, respect each other, and find appropriate resolutions to their differences to ensure the stability of their bilateral relationship.
The two parties also discussed the situation in the Middle East.
