Violence Erupts at Thave Temple in Gopalganj During Navratri Celebrations

Gopalganj, March 21: A significant incident of violence occurred at the renowned Thave Temple in Gopalganj, Bihar, during the ongoing Navratri festivities. On Saturday, a group of devotees from Siwan faced an assault while attempting to purchase offerings at the temple. In response to this serious incident, the district administration has ordered strict action against the perpetrators.

Reports indicate that at the Thave Durga Temple, a prominent pilgrimage site in Bihar, devotees were pressured to buy offerings. Allegations have surfaced that when some devotees resisted, certain vendors resorted to verbal abuse and physical violence.

Several devotees, including a woman and a doctor, sustained injuries during the altercation. They were promptly taken to the Thave Community Health Center and the District Hospital for treatment.

Injured devotee Dr. Nitish Kumar shared that he had come to the temple for worship with his family from Maharajganj in Siwan district. He recounted that vendors were forcefully handing out offerings, and when they declined, the vendors began to verbally abuse them before escalating to violence.

Upon learning of the incident, the district administration sprang into action. District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Sinha took the matter seriously and instructed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer to act immediately.

Sinha stated that CCTV footage has helped identify eight suspects, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing. Additionally, he has directed the removal of the vendors involved in the violence from the temple premises.

He emphasized that those who hurt religious sentiments and mistreat devotees will not be spared. The administration has assured that measures are being implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
