Bhopal, March 21: The ongoing conflict between Israel and the United States and Iran has disrupted the supply of petroleum products. In Madhya Pradesh, the distribution of domestic gas has also been affected, leaving consumers frustrated. In a unique demonstration, Congress leaders distributed stoves to highlight the issue.
The Congress party claims that a shortage of cooking gas in the capital has persisted for 20 days, forcing families to wander the city with empty cylinders ahead of the Eid and Navratri festivals. Accusing both the central and state governments of ignoring citizens’ hardships, Congress protested at Prabhat Chauraha by distributing stoves to women.
Congress leader Manoj Shukla stated that due to fear of the United States, the Indian government is unable to decide on importing cooking gas from Russia, resulting in a nationwide search for cylinders.
Shukla further criticized the government’s policies, asserting that they have led to a gas cylinder shortage and a sudden hike in premium petrol prices. He warned that the country may soon face a severe shortage of petroleum products, causing significant problems for the public, and suggested that people might have to resort to cooking on stoves.
The Congress party also accused the central government of failing to deliver on its promise to provide cooking gas cylinders to impoverished families under the Ujjwala scheme, which they claim has proven to be false.
Youth Congress President Amit Khatri remarked that agency operators are exploiting the gas shortage by supplying cylinders at arbitrary prices. He noted that trucks filled with cylinders roam the city at night, making it difficult to find them during the day. Congress has demanded that the district administration take immediate action against such agency operators.
