Vijay Sharma Urges Respect for National Symbols Amidst Political Tensions

New Delhi, August 18: Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Sharma, has sharply responded to various political issues related to Congress and the opposition. He addressed the grand Tricolor Yatra event in Bastar, allegations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the BJP regarding “Vande Mataram,” comments made by Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad about the RSS, and shared his views on the BJP’s new organizational appointments.

Sharma emphasized the significance of the Tricolor Yatra, recalling a time when displaying the national flag in Bastar was met with violence. He noted that many villages did not fully adhere to the Constitution. The central and state governments have worked resolutely to implement the Constitution throughout Bastar. This year, on August 15, the Tricolor was hoisted in all locations and institutions in Bastar. The aim of the Tricolor Yatra was not merely to hold an event but to convey the message that no one can be stopped from hoisting the flag. Citizens were encouraged to display the Tricolor at their homes, and flags were distributed during the journey. The campaign aimed to spread the message of “Har Ghar Tiranga” and “Ghar-Ghar Tiranga” across every part of Bastar.

Regarding the allegations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi concerning “Vande Mataram,” Sharma stated that disrespect towards national symbols should not occur. He mentioned hearing a statement from a Congress leader who allegedly said they sang the entire “Vande Mataram” despite objections from senior leaders. This indicates that there were indeed concerns raised by senior party officials. While individual preferences may vary, respecting matters of national significance is a duty for every citizen. Those in high constitutional and political positions should be particularly mindful of this.

Sharma accused Congress of opposing India’s symbols and traditions in its opposition to the BJP. He asserted that while political parties and their ideologies can be criticized, issues that resonate with the public’s sentiments should not be contested.

In response to Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s comment regarding “intellectual Naxalism,” Sharma defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements. He clarified that Modi did not target any political party. The Prime Minister is well aware of the devastation caused by Naxalism and the violence that has led to numerous deaths among security forces and tribal communities. He referenced the killings of activists involved in education, the targeting of flag hoisters, and the incident at Jhiram Valley.

Sharma highlighted that the Jhiram incident resulted in the deaths of several prominent Congress leaders from Chhattisgarh. He pointed out that Naxalism is not just a political term but represents violence that devastates lives and destabilizes the nation. He accused the opposition of misrepresenting Modi’s statements for “vote bank politics.”

He advised that if the opposition wishes to take on this issue, they should first understand the true meaning and pain of Naxalism. He suggested that opposition leaders visit Bastar and meet those who have lost limbs due to Naxalite violence and IED blasts. According to him, if leaders fail to comprehend the victims’ pain, the public will respond accordingly in due time.

On Congress leader Hariprasad’s remarks regarding the RSS, Sharma questioned the necessity of registration for social and cultural activities. He stated that while registration may be relevant for organizations, it should not be linked to social interactions and cultural activities among people.

Sharma accused Congress of attempting to divert attention from core issues. He mentioned the partition of India, the formation of Pakistan and Bangladesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and terrorism, emphasizing that these issues also require serious consideration. Political parties should focus on India’s fundamental problems and national security matters.

Regarding the BJP’s new organizational appointments, Sharma noted a good balance of experience and new opportunities within the new team. While a new team has been formed, past experiences have not been entirely disregarded. Reflecting on his work with Nitin Naveen, he expressed confidence in Naveen’s leadership and organizational skills. He believes that the BJP’s new organizational team will yield significant results for the party in the future.
