Vietnam President Honored at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Strengthening India-Vietnam Relations

New Delhi, May 7: A banquet was hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in honor of Vietnam’s President, To Lam. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also attended the event. During the occasion, President Murmu emphasized the need to further strengthen India-Vietnam relations.

According to an official post on Rashtrapati Bhavan’s social media platform ‘X’, President Murmu welcomed President To Lam and organized a banquet in his honor. She stated that elevating India-Vietnam relations to the level of a “comprehensive strategic partnership” would not only enhance bilateral cooperation but also contribute to peace and prosperity in the region.

Earlier, both nations reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the health sector. They also highlighted the importance of integrating technologies such as UPI-based digital payments between the two countries.

In a joint press conference in the national capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President To Lam praised the progress of the Indian pharmaceutical industry. Both countries agreed to explore potential participation of Indian companies in the procurement of medicines for Vietnam’s government health institutions starting in 2027.

Recognizing the growing importance of technology, both sides emphasized enhancing collaboration in the digital transformation of the health sector, particularly in promoting the use of artificial intelligence.

Considering the rich heritage of traditional medicine in both countries, the leaders agreed to promote the exchange of knowledge, research, and best practices, as well as strengthen institutional cooperation. They welcomed progress toward finalizing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on traditional medicine and appreciated the proposal to establish an academic chair for Ayurveda in Vietnam.

The leaders reiterated the significance of digital technologies and welcomed the agreement on financial innovation and digital payments between the Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of Vietnam.

Both nations agreed to connect retail payment platforms through QR codes, which will boost tourism and trade. According to the official statement, both parties also consented to enhance cooperation in areas such as digital public infrastructure, 6G, artificial intelligence, space and nuclear technology, marine science, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, and critical minerals.
