Punjab Assembly Elections 2027: A Look at Pathankots Political Landscape

As Punjab gears up for the 2027 elections, Pathankots political dynamics reveal shifting alliances and past election results.

Pathankot, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : The political climate in Punjab is heating up as the state prepares for the 2027 assembly elections. Parties are strategizing and forming alliances to secure their positions. To understand the dynamics in Pathankot district, it is essential to review the results from the 2022 elections, which featured three assembly seats: Sujanpur, Bhoa (reserved), and Pathankot.

In Sujanpur, Congress made a significant comeback in 2022, defeating the BJP, which had held the seat for three consecutive terms in 2007, 2012, and 2017. Congress candidate Naresh Puri won by a margin of 4,636 votes, securing 46,916 votes against BJP’s Dinesh Kumar, who received 42,280 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, Amit Singh Manto, finished third with 29,310 votes.

Moving to Bhoa, a reserved seat, AAP wrested control from Congress in the last election. Lal Chand Kataruchak of AAP triumphed over Congress’s Joginder Pal in a closely contested race, winning by 1,204 votes. Kataruchak garnered 50,339 votes, while Pal received 49,135 votes. BJP’s Seema Kumari trailed with 29,132 votes.

In Pathankot, the BJP reclaimed the seat from Congress in 2022. Ashwini Kumar Sharma of the BJP defeated Congress’s Amit Vij by a margin of 7,759 votes, with Sharma receiving 43,132 votes compared to Vij’s 35,373. AAP’s Vibhuti Sharma came in third with 31,451 votes.

The upcoming 2027 elections are expected to witness fierce competition, particularly between the BJP and Congress. Urban and Dalit voters will play a crucial role in determining the outcome in this politically significant district.
